Joint Education Informational Hearing

On Thursday, the Assembly Education Committee and the Senate Education Committee held a joint informational hearing to seek information regarding the distribution of federal funding to Wisconsin k-12 schools.

Assembly Transportation Committee Passes Infrastructure Legislation

On Wednesday, the Assembly Transportation Committee passed legislation that will allocate $308 million of federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. $144 million for grants to counties. Not more than $2 million of this amount may be paid to each county. The bill also provides $164 million for grants to municipalities.

Governor Evers' Budget Recommendation Briefs:

This week is the fifth edition of Governor Evers' Budget Recommendation Briefs. For the coming weeks, we will be sharing provisions included in the governor's budget recommendations to the legislature. It is the responsibility of the legislature to make changes to the budget and return it to the governor for his approval. Each brief will focus on one or two sections of the budget. This week the brief is on the University of Wisconsin System (UW System):


University of Wisconsin System (UW System)

  • Freeze undergraduate tuition and provide $50.4 million GPR to the UW System.
  •  Provide $39 million GPR for a tuition promise program to fund tuition for households $60,000 AGI and below.
  • Provide $10 million GPR for mental and behavioral health support.
  • Provide $40 million GPR in operating funds.
  • Allow UW System to invest funds outside the state investment fund and allow borrowing for operating funds.
  • Provide $9 million GPR for the freshwater collaborative.
  • Provide $5 million GPR for nurse loan forgiveness and $5 million GPR for a prison baccalaureate education program.
  • Provide funding for various other education programs.
  • Provide a nonresident tuition exemption for undocumented individuals and certain Native Americans.

Fire Management

With the recent rise in wildfires in Wisconsin, it is important to know the burning restrictions in place and how to prepare and protect your home from wildfires. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has a fire management dashboard that can be found here which provides information about wildfires and prescribed fires across the state.
