Ag Day Press Conference

WisAg_Stats(square).jpg

On Wednesday, the Assembly Republicans held a press conference for Ag Day to announce agricultural priorities for the remainder of this session. New legislation will include a targeted tax credit for smaller farms, an increase in dairy processing grants, a new research effort for greater exports, and a sole proprietor tax credit. We have made it a priority to support farmers and the agricultural industry throughout this legislative session and I anticipate these bills will receive broad bipartisan support.

Sturgeon Spearing Season

Sturgeon Spearing Season at Lake Winnebago is starting tomorrow and goes until February 23rd. The WI Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has reported great numbers of licenses sold. This is great news! However, with a mild winter, there are reports that the ice may be too thin in some areas, limiting how heavy certain objects (shanties, vehicles, etc.) can be when placed on the ice. I recommend staying updated with local news sources and the DNR on conditions before you plan to go sturgeon spearing. Stay safe and good luck!

Reminder: Open Enrollment Period

Parents and guardians will have an opportunity to send their children to any public school in Wisconsin through the Public School Open Enrollment program. The application period for the 2020-21 school year opens Feb. 3, 2020, and runs through April 30, 2020. Application materials and additional information are available on the Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) website. Furthermore, the open enrollment period for the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program is during the same time. Application materials and information are also available on DPI's website, here.

Lead Bill Updates

On Tuesday, I testified before the Assembly Committee on Energy and Utilities on ABs 475 and 476. Both bills seek to make sure our children have clean water at child care centers and schools in Wisconsin. With bipartisan support, I am hopeful that these two bills will pass out of their committee soon and head off to the whole Assembly, where I believe they will pass, too.
