Standing with Dignity

Standing with Dignity.jpg (1)

Last Friday, a bill authored by Senator Testin and me was signed into law by Governor Evers. I had the honor of working on the 'Standing with Dignity' bill with these incredible women pictured above. The bill will save lives, and there is no better time for it than right now. I am thankful that those with severe disabilities will now have easier access to the equipment they need to lead healthier, more dignified lives.

Safer at Home Extension: Lawsuit Filed

On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Legislature filed a lawsuit with the WI Supreme Court that challenges how the Governor's executive order extending "Safer at Home" was issued through the Department of Health Services (DHS). The main question before the Supreme Court is whether an unelected, unaccountable agency head has more broad authority and power than the Governor after his 60 day emergency authority has expired. In short, can DHS operate without limit and public or legislative input outside of the statutory administrative rules process?

The Legislature is asking the court for an injunction of the extension and to keep enforcement of its injunction for a period of six days, allowing DHS sufficient time to promulgate a new emergency rule consistent with Wisconsin law. This would fairly accommodate the parties' mutual interest in preserving the status quo and ensuring no disruption to the State’s efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 while DHS takes steps to comply with all applicable statutes.

Evers' Badger Bounceback Plan

This week Governor Evers and his administration announced his reopening plan that he calls the "Badger Bounce Back". The attached PDF goes into detail of the guidelines of each of the proposed phases.

Wisconsin Hospital Association Dashboard

Recently, the Wisconsin Hospital Association established the COVID-19 Situational Awareness Update. The dashboard helps the public better understand the outbreak regionally and statewide. The dashboard tracks hospital admissions, bed count, available ventilators, and the number of hospitals with seven days worth or less of personal protective equipment supply. The information is updated daily.
