Madison – Today, Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R – Fond du Lac) was reappointed chairman of the Assembly Committee on Education for the 2017-18 biennium session. Rep. Thiesfeldt was first named chairman for the 2015-16 biennium by Speaker Vos.
Rep. Thiesfeldt stated, "I appreciate that Speaker Vos has reappointed me as chairman of the Assembly Committee on Education for another two years. It has been an honor to lead the committee this past session during which we explored a wide range of important topics and reforms. I am honored to serve in this role again."
Rep. Thiesfeldt coached athletics and taught various subjects in both elementary and high school over his 22-year teaching career prior to being elected to the Assembly in 2010. The Joint Legislative Council on School Data concluded its work in November with Rep. Thiesfeldt as chairman.
He has also served as chair to the Speaker's Select Committee on Common Core Standards during the 2013-14 biennium and served as a member of the Legislative Council Study Committee on the Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) Program. Lastly, he currently is serving on the Governor’s Read to Lead Development Council and recently added to the newly formed State Superintendent’s Wisconsin Standards Review Council.
"We have a lot of work to do to improve education across the spectrum in Wisconsin and I am looking forward to working with all my colleagues on the committee," concluded Thiesfeldt.
