State Budget Overview

Wisconsin enacts a biennial state budget every odd numbered year. Earlier this year the Governor delivered his budget address to the Legislature. Per state law the budget was introduced in bill format and sent to the Joint Committee on Finance. The Legislature will now deliberate on the contents of the budget bill and make changes. The budget bill will eventually be reported out of committee and be eligible for consideration before the Senate and Assembly. After the budget bill passes in both chambers it will be sent to the Governor for his review. The Governor will then sign the budget, veto the budget in-part, or veto the budget in its entirety.
