Rep. Novak Honors Former State Representative Joseph “Joe” Tregoning

MADISON –Rep. Todd Novak (Dodgeville) honored the life and service of former State Representative Joseph “Joe” Tregoning before the Wisconsin State Assembly by authoring a Joint Resolution that commemorates the former Representative for the 51st Assembly District.

“Joe was a visionary and tireless advocate for Southwest Wisconsin,” said Novak during his address to the Assembly. “If you have agriculture in your district, I assure you Joe had an effect on your area.”

A resident of Shullsburg, Joe was first elected to the Assembly in April of 1967. He served as an elected official for over 20 years before his appointment to serve as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection by Governor Tommy Thompson. Even after his retirement from public service, Joe continued to be a strong advocate for his community and Southwest Wisconsin through his work with many ag-focused businesses.

“Joe was a resilient man who overcame several tragedies in his life, but his sense of humor is something I’ll always remember,” said Novak. “He was a dear friend who used to tell many stories about the legends that served in this body from both parties. In his own right he will go down as a legend in the 51st Assembly district and I’m honored to sit in a seat that he represented.”
