Grant Awarded

The Friends of Governor Dodge State Park have been awarded a $45,000 Federal Recreational Trail Program Grant to build an equestrian trailhead and campground facility within the park. Thank you for your work to secure this grant and improve Governor Dodge for visitors from across Wisconsin!

Assembly COVID-19 Relief Package

Assembly Republicans announced legislation to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The initiatives include:

- Creation of a $100 million fund to respond to the public health emergency

- Doubling the number of local public health staff

- Offering weekly rapid antigen tests for home use

- Establishing legislative oversight of a vaccine distribution plan

- Continuing the prohibition of co-payments for any COVID-19 test

- Allowing health service providers from other states to practice in Wisconsin

- Requiring UW System to provide credit to students who assist in the COVID-19 response

- Business grants for the hospitality industry

- Requiring the Department of Workforce Development to eliminate the backlog of unemployment insurance claims

These are just a few of the provisions included in a bill that I believe lays a foundation for continued conversations with Governor Evers. As was done earlier this year, the Governor and the legislature need to come together to pass bipartisan legislation to address the pandemic. I look forward to being a part of these ongoing deliberations and am confident in our ability to pass a comprehensive response.

The Legislative Fiscal Bureau has released a memo summarizing this legislation. Click here to view the document. I welcome your feedback on the proposal put forward.

The funds for this program will come from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and will be administered by the Department of Revenue (DOR).

It is important to note that businesses will not have to apply for the grants but will be identified for this benefit based on their state tax records. The program will target businesses with annual revenues between $1 million and $7 million.
