Testimony on Safe Haven Bill

This week, I testified in the Assembly Committee on Education on Assembly Bill 560, a bill I am authoring with Wisconsin State Senator Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan). AB 560 would add the teaching of Wisconsin’s Safe Haven laws for health classes in schools.

I drafted this bill after hearing about the tragedy concerning a newborn baby, Harper who was found murdered this winter in Green County. The intention of this bill is to increase awareness of Safe Haven laws for young people who may be experiencing a crisis. Safe Haven laws allow a newborn to be dropped off at public locations such as a hospital, local police department or fire station within 72 hours of birth.
I especially want to thank Bobbie Thomas, Monroe, representing the Green County Abuse Prevention Team for testifying at the hearing as well. Her testimony emphasized the importance of this bill.

 Eagle Scout Ceremony

Last weekend, I was honored to attend the Eagle Scout ceremony for Gavin McCauley, of Lone Rock, a member of Spring Green Troop 38. For his Eagle Scout project, Gavin refurbished a flower bed originally made by a WWI Veteran, created a new sign for Battery Park & planted a tree in the park. I was honored to present him a state citation on behalf of myself and Senator Howard Marklein. Congratulations Gavin!

Belmont Homecoming Parade

This weekend the Belmont Community School district will be holding its annual parade and community fair. The fair runs all weekend and the parade will be held on Saturday beginning at 10 AM. All proceeds from the fair go to the Belmont School District to fund student activities.
