Bipartisan Budget Passes Legislature

This week the Legislature passed its version of the state budget. In the Assembly the budget passed on a bipartisan vote 64-34, and passed in the Senate 23-9 also on a bipartisan vote. I am proud of the efforts I was able to get into the state budget, including:

-Adding a halftime Assistant District attorney in Lafayette County

-Adding a fulltime Assistant District Attorney in Sauk County

-Providing $2 million in funding for free and charitable clinics

-Providing $2 million in funding for community health centers

-Extending the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program through 2026 while providing additional authorized bonding of $90 million

-Allocating $2 million for private well testing

-$4 million for county conservation staffing

-Authorization and funding of $5 million for the UW system Freshwater Collaborative

-Providing $750,000 for assistance to foster youth in the UW system

-$300,000 to provide support adoption services for children with special needs and hard to place children

-$2 million more in funding for the Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship program, and increasing allowable grants from $900 to $1,100 for each student apprentice

The budget is a responsible and targeted plan that will provide necessary funding to our essential public services while providing relief to the average Wisconsin tax payer. This budget received support on both sides of the aisle given the bipartisan vote that it received in both chambers.

Now the budget is being sent to the Governor Evers desk for his signature.
