Safe Haven Bill Signed into Law

Last Friday, Governor Evers signed into law Senate Bill 555 adding the teaching of Wisconsin's Safe Haven laws to school curriculums.

Wisconsin's Safe Haven laws allows for newborns to be dropped off at designated safe locations like a police station or hospital within 72 hours of birth without fear of legal consequences.

The legislation now known as Act 90, was the bill that I authored with Wisconsin State Senator Joan Ballweg after learning about the tragic death of an infant in Green County this winter.
I want to give my sincere thanks to the members of the Green County Abuse Prevention Team & District Attorney Craig Nolen for working on this bill idea with me. A special thanks to team member Bobbi Thomas, Monroe, who came to the Capitol twice to testify.
I am proud of the bipartisan support this bill received and I am happy to see Governor Evers sign this bill into law. This law will help bring awareness of safe options to those who may be experiencing a crisis.

Jacob Bindl Eagle Scout Ceremony
Last Saturday I had the opportunity to attend the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Jacob Bindl, Plain. At the ceremony, I presented Jacob with a citation signed by Senator Howard Marklein, Governor Tony Evers, and myself.
For Jacob's Eagle Scout project, he relocated the north and south welcome road signs in the Village of Plain, as well as the west and east side welcome signs after the village purchased new signs.
Congratulations again Jacob on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout!

Monroe Optimists Cheese Curd Wins Tourism Award

In October, Travel Wisconsin announced the Monroe Optimist Deep Fried Cheese Curds as the single location winner for the Travel Wisconsin "Crown the Curd" contest. Their curds were selected from over 1,900 nominations received statewide.

The Optimist Fried Cheese Curds are a staple every year at the Green County Fair and Monroe Cheese Days.

Monroe Businesses Receive COVID Grants

This week it was announced that $15 million in funds were being invested in the tourism and entertainment industries throughout the state of Wisconsin.

I am pleased see these state administered funds be allocated to entities in my district as well.

Main Street Monroe received just over $11,000 in grants, while Green County received a $40,000 grant.

It is important that these grant dollars reach the tourism and entertainment sectors that were so greatly affected by the pandemic.

I continue to support similar initiatives like Assembly Bill 422 (AB 422) a bill I am co-authoring with Representative Donna Rozar (R-Marshfield) that creates a rural creative economy grant program in Wisconsin.

Southwest Wisconsin is home to many arts, historical, and other wonderful tourist destinations that are important drivers of our economy. That is why I am proud to continue my support for these initiatives.
