Lancaster Water Quality Task Force Hearing

We had an excellent hearing as the Speaker's Task Force on Water Quality traveled to Lancaster, Wednesday, to hear from experts and members of the public. Our hearing kicked off with testimony from Southwest Wisconsin Groundwater and Geology Study (SWIGG) officials and included presentations from the Lafayette Ag and Stewardship Alliance (LASA) as well as various other groups researching and implementing conservation minded practices in agriculture. Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend and speak at our hearing. We are making great progress.

2018 Tourism Report

The 2018 tourism report was released this week and the numbers are outstanding! Tourism activity reached $21.6 billion with visitor spending increasing by almost 5% statewide. From 2017 to 2018, for the five counties I represent (Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Richland, Sauk), direct visitor spending is up, total business sales are up, and employment is up.

This Week's Visits

I had some fantastic visits this week at the Capitol. Deb Rosenthal of Iowa County Child Support and Erin Fubrizius of Wisconsin Child Support Enforcement Association came in to discuss Wisconsin's Child Support Program. One issue we discussed was administrative paternity to make sure both the mother and father take responsibility for the care and well-being of their children. We also talked about birth cost recovery and the payment options involved including out-of-pocket and medicaid reimbursement.

We also had Ben Huber, Karen Gefvert, and Kristen Faucon representing Insight FS which is an agricultural and energy business that provides feed, agronomy, energy, agri-finance, seed and turf products and services as well as grain marketing. We discussed Sustainable 4RWI which is a collaborative project between the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation and Insight FS to showcase how Wisconsin farmers and ag retailers can work together to sustainably manage crop nutrients with the 4R method (the right nutrient source, at the right rate, at the right time, in the right place).
