Statewide COVID Response

This week, Legislative Republicans and Governor Tony Evers released ideas for additional legislation to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Legislative Republicans presented suggestions that include building upon our testing system, doubling the number of contract tracers, ensuring an efficient vaccine distribution, assisting those who are unemployed and reforming our unemployment insurance system, and providing needed assistance to our small business.

Governor Evers also put forward some great ideas including grants to small businesses, extending the suspension of the one-week waiting period for unemployment, and requiring that insurers cover COVID-19 treatments and vaccinations. These are ideas that I support and will encourage my colleagues to support as well.

Going forward, I am confident that the legislature and Governor Evers can work together to pass additional bipartisan legislation to address the pandemic.

I have and will continue to urge everyone to wear a mask, social distance, and follow other guidelines as laid out by the Centers for Disease Control. We must be personally responsible and hold each other accountable to get control of this virus. To do this effectively, we need to work to expand testing efforts that make it quick and easy to get tested.
