This is the first video in a series where legislators share a story from their lives outside the capitol. I've served as a court appointed guardian for over 20 years and there remains a strong demand for guardians all across the state. Check out the video as I share my experience in this important role.

Mineral Point Elementary School Visit

This week, I had the opportunity to visit the classes of Mrs. Ross, Mrs. Grimm, and Mrs. Doyle at Mineral Point Elementary School to hear their proposal to make Cheese the state dairy product. They put together such an excellent presentation that I plan to bring their proposal before the legislature.

Capital Centennial Celebration 100.jpg

Capitol Centennial Celebration

This year, the Wisconsin State Capitol turns 100 years old. On Monday, The Capitol Centennial Commission organized a celebration in the rotunda to commemorate this anniversary. I encourage you to visit Madison and stop by the capitol building to enjoy the history and beauty this building contains. If you are unable to make the trip, click here to learn about the history of our state capitol and take a virtual tour.

Governor Walker's Rural School Proposal

On Wednesday, the Governor previewed the "Every Student Matters" portion of his budget proposal. While more details are coming in his budget address next Wednesday, he has proposed an increase in per-pupil sparsity aid along with a sparsity aid expansion that encompasses schools that formerly would have fallen short of receiving this funding. Additionally, the Governor has proposed an additional $13 million to the Broadband Expansion Grant Program along with additional funding for TEACH Grants which supply the funding for mobile hot spots that allow students to bring the internet home.

I am happy to see the Governor prioritizing rural education and broadband. This is definitely a step in the right direction and I hope to work on improving this important legislation as the budget process continues.

Wisconsin Credit Union League

I had the opportunity to sit down with Marc Jones, Robin Marohn, and Kevin Hauser from the Wisconsin Credit Union League to discuss ways in which we can better serve the financial needs of citizens in the 51st District. Our area is home to many strong credit unions that serve a vital roll in providing affordable credit to home owners and entrepreneurs.
