UW-Platteville Receives Funding for Building Improvements

The Joint Committee on Finance approved a motion authored by Rep. Tranel and myself to grant $78 million in funding for the construction of a new engineering building and improvements to the existing Boebel Hall on the UW-Platteville campus. The new Sesquicentennial Hall will house the school's mechanical and industrial engineering programs. Built in the 1960's, this building can no longer adequately accommodate increasing demand. Boebel Hall, home to a variety of other STEM fields, will be renovated to utilize new technology and improve functionality.

Since 2005, enrollment at UW-Platteville has increased by 46%. This, along with ever increasing demand for engineering and STEM graduates, makes this a great investment in our UW system and the state of Wisconsin.

To show our support, Representative Tranel and I, along with Democratic Representatives Kessler, Kolste, Hesselbein, and Reimer joined Chancellor Dennis Shields and Dean Wayne Weber for a tour of the UW-Platteville campus.

The improvements are slated to begin in October of 2019 and finish in December of 2023.

Foster Care Task Force Coming to Dodgeville

The bi-partisan Speakers Task Force on Foster Care is coming to Dodgeville! Myself, along with 12 colleagues from the Assembly will be holding a hearing in Dodgeville on September 20 at the Iowa County Health and Human Services Building. Earlier this month, the task force kicked off a series of informational hearings in Wausau. I'm excited to welcome this group of bi-partisan legislators to Dodgeville to learn about some of the issues that face our rural foster care systems. Currently, Dodgeville is the only rural stop for the task force. The hearing will focus on foster kids and a general overview of the foster care system.
