Independent Living Resources Visit

Independent Living Resources (ILR) of Southwest Wisconsin visited my office this week as part of their lobby day in the state capitol. ILR works with elderly individuals and those with disabilities to solve day-to-day problems associated with aging and special needs. With a majority of their staff living with a disability, these specialists provide an irreplaceable service to our community. Thanks for visiting!

Health Care Stability Legislation Signed

On Tuesday, Governor Walker signed the Health Care Stability Plan into law. I authored this legislation to combat the skyrocketing premiums Wisconsin has seen on the individual marketplace under the Affordable Care Act. Passing the assembly with broad bi-partisan support, once implemented, individuals purchasing insurance coverage on the individual market should see a decrease in their premiums by 2020.

Lafayette Agriculture Stewardship Conference

Yesterday, I was honored to attend the Lafayette Ag Stewardship Alliance (LASA) Annual Meeting with Representative Travis Tranel. LASA's mission is to bring farmers together to protect water quality and the environment.

The conference began with a panel discussing farmer-led conservation: what Wisconsin is doing well and ways we can improve. Panelists included Steve Richter from the Nature Conservancy, Chuck Ripp from Ripp's Dairy Valley, and Terry Loeffelholz representing Lafayette County Land Conservation.

The afternoon continued with discussion related to manure innovation and application decisions. Dr. Daniel Andersen, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Professor at Iowa State University, gave a presentation on manure application decisions as it relates to our area.

I continue to hear from constituents across the district who have concerns with sustainable farming and water quality. This conference was an excellent resource for me to continue to learn more about these topics and the possible ways we can address water quality issues in our area.
