Tavern League Resized.jpg
The Tavern League of Wisconsin held their lobby day this week. Jerry Day, owner of Second Shot Saloon in Fennimore and Motor Boatin' Bar & Grill in Glen Haven, along with DC Timmerman, representing Hindu's Corner Bar in Cuba City, and Scott Blindert, owner of Scooter's Midway in Potosi, were among many other bar and restaurant owners to visit Madison this week.

Convention and Visitors Bureau Resized.jpg

Wisconsin Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus

Taliesen representative Carrie Rodamaker, Joe Klimczak from Cave of the Mounds, and Sue Donaldson from House on the Rock visited my office on Thursday on behalf of the Wisconsin Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. Their list of legislative priorities included additional funding for state tourism marketing initiatives along with a permanent and sustainable fix to our transportation infrastructure so Wisconsin's tourism industry can continue to thrive. Thanks for visiting!

American Players Theatre Wins Governor's Tourism Award

Governor Scott Walker recognized the American Players Theatre in Spring Green for their continued excellence and contribution to Wisconsin tourism in the areas of the Arts, Culture, and Heritage. The theatre was one of 5 organizations who received the Governor's Tourism Award from a pool of 33 nominees.

The American Players Theatre is well known not just in Wisconsin, but around the United States. The Wall Street Journal called the theatre "the finest classical-repertory company in the U.S." This year, American Players Theatre enters into its 38th season investing $7.7 million into its flagship venue, the Hill Theatre.

I want to congratulate the American Players Theatre and thank them for their continued service to the people of Southwest Wisconsin. If you haven't visited this beautiful place, I recommend you take some time and catch a show this summer.

Independent Living Resources

Erica Moutsopoulos, Lucas Herro, Hallee Hess, Ashley Walker, and Todd Scharrer stopped by my office this week on behalf of Independent Living Resources. They brought with them the idea for a Transportation Coordination Task Force to be added to the budget this session. This task force would work to find more effective transportation options for older residents and people with disabilities. Opportunity is clearly limited when an individual doesn't have access to transportation options. I appreciate them taking time to bring new ideas to the state capitol.

Pharmacists and Nutritionists Resized.jpg

Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics

Mirong Zou of Illinois, Leanna Schwartzlow of Monroe, and Ingrid Kallgren of Monroe visited my office this week on behalf of the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. These ladies came out to support the Wisconsin Nutrition Education Act which is currently in the early stages of passage in the State Assembly. This bill would integrate a nutrition education component into current health class curriculums. Studies have shown that healthy eating habits that are established early in life are more likely to be continued later on. I'm proud to support this important legislation.
