Welcome to my Weekly Pandemic Update. Throughout the week, my office does its best to collect and disperse information that may be of aid or interest to you from both state and federal entities.

While Wisconsinites are staying close to home, and the weather this weekend seems to be cooler and rainier, the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) suggests that now is a good time to create a personal property home inventory. 


Documenting possessions with a home inventory is the most important step homeowners and renters can take to make sure they have enough coverage to fully protect and replace their valuables if something happens. 


OCI has created a document that can assist you with creating a personal property home inventory.   


Consumers are encouraged to read their homeowner's, renter's, or condominium owner's insurance policy to make sure they understand the coverage they have in place and to make sure the level of insurance coverage is adequate to meet their needs. Consumers who see a need for revising their policies should work with their insurance agents to get their coverage updated.

Department of Military Affairs

The Department of Military Affairs and the Wisconsin National Guard continue to support local public health offices by conducting mobile test sites. You can read more about the operation in this press release


They have already been to two of the counties in the 50th Assembly District, Sauk and Monroe Counties: 

Sauk County: More than 175 specimens collected during testing in Baraboo that concluded April 29; Lake Delton seasonal staff dormitory testing concluded April 25 with approximately 175 specimens collected. Another team collected more than 130 specimens at a community-based testing site May 7 in Spring Green. This mission has since concluded. 

Monroe County: One team collected 300 specimens May 22 at a long-term care facility in Sparta.  One team collected over 50 specimens May 26 at the Wisconsin National Guard’s Challenge Academy at Ft. McCoy. This mission has since concluded. 

Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation


Recently, WEDC announced a major new initiative that combines federal CARES Act funding with specific Wisconsin programs aimed at helping small business respond to and recover from the effects of the COVID-19 health emergency. The We’re All In initiative, which includes $2,500 cash grants to assist with the cost of business interruption or for health and safety improvements, wages and salaries, rent, mortgages and inventory.


While details of the grant’s requirements are being finalized, the following information was included in the announcement:

  • Grants in the amount of $2,500 will be available for small businesses with 20 or fewer FTEs impacted by COVID-19 that have not already received WEDC COVID-19 assistance.
  • Up to 30,000 businesses may receive grants.
  • The application period for these grants will open in June.

People interested in receiving up-to-date information on the We’re All In initiative, including the timeline for the applications for the We’re All In Grant Program, should subscribe to daily alerts from WEDC.

US Dept of Ag - Coronavirus Food Assistance Program


USDA has now opened applications for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), which provides direct payments to farmers and ranchers to offset impacts from the coronavirus pandemic. Applications will be accepted through August 28, 2020.


The application form and a payment calculator are both available on on the website. There is also a call center (877-508-8364) set up to help you with your questions.


Through CFAP, USDA is making available $16 billion for vital financial assistance to producers of agricultural commodities who have suffered a five-percent-or-greater price decline due to COVID-19 and face additional significant marketing costs as a result of lower demand, surplus production, and disruptions to shipping patterns and the orderly marketing of commodities.

Wisconsin Rental Assistance Program

This week the moratorium on evictions was lifted as the executive order expired. For renters who are still in need of assistance, you may want to check out the Wisconsin Rental Assistance Program


The Wisconsin Rental Assistance Program assists eligible renters who have had a significant loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic and need help with their rent.  In general, eligible applicants must be an adult Wisconsin resident with a household income at or below 80% of the county median income in the month of or prior to the application date. The eligible costs are for rent owed or security deposits and an individual can be awarded up to $3,000. The payment is then directly paid to the individual's landlord. The funding for this program is a part of the money Wisconsin received from the Federal CARES Act.
