Rep. Tranel Supports Tax Cut for Middle Class Families

January 17, 2019

Today Representative Travis Tranel joined his Assembly colleagues in unveiling a major new initiative which allows working Southwest Wisconsin families to keep more of their hard-earned money. The proposal would provide $340 million in tax relief for middle class families by utilizing a portion of the state’s $558 million budget surplus.

“Due to our state’s growing economy and prudent budget decisions over the past eight years, we are in a great position to come together to cut taxes for middle class families in Southwest Wisconsin,” said Tranel. “I look forward to working with Governor Evers to deliver on his campaign promise to cut taxes for middle income earners by 10 percent.”

The proposed tax reductions are targeted to benifit individuals making less than $100,000 per year and families earning $150,000 or less. It’s projected by the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau that a median-income family filing jointly would see a $310 reduction in net taxes.

Formal legislation could by introduced as early as next week as Assembly Republicans are working with the Senate to finalize the bill draft. Once approved and if signed by Governor Evers, the tax cut would take effect next year.
