Rep. Tranel Requests DATCP Board Remain Unchanged

Madison – Today, Rep. Travis Tranel (R-Cuba City) and nine fellow legislators sent a joint letter to Rep. John Nygren, co-chair of the state’s powerful budget writing committee (Joint Finance), to request they remove a provision from the Governor’s proposed budget that would make the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection Board (DATCP) strictly advisory.

“The DATCP Board is important to rural communities across the state, and it is clear to me after listening to my constituents that the policy making powers should be maintained,” said Tranel.  “The citizen board is an important check and balance that protects our state’s agricultural economy.”

The Joint Finance Committee Co-Chairs announced today that the DATCP and DNR board changes would be removed from the budget due to a lack of legislative support for making the boards advisory.
