Rep. Tranel Applauds Broadband Grant Program Funding

Madison – Today, the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) voted 12 to 4 to approve spending $4.3 million dollars to fund Governor Walker’s broadband grant program in the state budget.   The purpose of the grant program is to promote increased broadband access and capacity to underserved rural areas of Wisconsin.

“Making sure that rural broadband funding is included in the state budget has been one of my top priorities,” said Tranel.  “Improving access to high speed internet is vital for economic growth in Southwest Wisconsin.   Funding this grant program is a positive step in the right direction.”

Rep. Tranel and 14 Republican rural legislators sent a letter to the Co-Chairs of the Joint Finance Committee asking the committee to invest at least $3 million dollars in funding for the broadband grant program.
