State Representative Travis Tranel (R-Cuba City) voted on Tuesday in favor of Assembly Bill 4, which cuts taxes for middle class Wisconsin families by $340 million. This legislation utilizes a portion of the $588 million state budget surplus to provide significant tax relief.

“After last November’s election, I promised my constituents that I would work across the aisle with Governor Evers to deliver on our shared priorities. We both ran on cutting taxes for middle class taxpayers,” said Tranel. “I am proud of the legislation we passed today and believe that it will help Southwest Wisconsin families.”

The $340 million in tax relief will benefit individuals making less than $100,000 per year and families earning $150,000 or less. It’s projected by the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau that a median-income family filing jointly would see a $310 reduction in net taxes.
