On April 9^th, the Wisconsin state legislature awarded nearly 40 Hometown Hero recognitions to members of the Wisconsin National Guard during a legislative floor session. The guardsmen and women were recognized for their service protecting the United States’ southern border during the Southwest Border Mission in Arizona and New Mexico.

 Among the 40 Wisconsin National Guard members were two Southwest Wisconsin natives, Brett Cargill and Cody Groskreutz.

“It was an honor to recognize two guard members from Southwest Wisconsin who so bravely served along our country’s southern border to protect the citizens of our great nation,” said Tranel.

The Wisconsin National Guard members contributed to more than 12,516 apprehensions, 1,426 turn backs while seizing 8,366 pounds of marijuana and 221 pounds of methamphetamines.

 “I sincerely appreciate the sacrifices that Wisconsin National Guardsmen and women make to serve our state,” Marklein said. “Their volunteer service is an essential part of our nation’s security.”

A Hometown Hero award is the highest honor a citizen can be awarded by the legislature.
