Rep. Baldeh Reaction to Gov. Tony Evers’ 2023-2025 State Budget Address
Rep. Baldeh Applauds Gov. Evers for Proposing a Budget for All Wisconsinites
MADISON – In reaction to Governor Tony Evers’ Biennial Budget Address this evening, State Rep. Samba Baldeh (D-Madison) released the following statement:
“As we well know, budgets are about priorities – and during his Budget Address tonight, Governor Tony Evers made it exceedingly clear that his priorities lie with the people of Wisconsin. Our state finds itself in the best financial health it has ever been in, and we have before us an opportunity to deliver historic investments in initiatives across the state for our constituents. Tonight, Governor Evers laid out a budget vision that would provide critical investments in infrastructure, in healthcare access, in workforce development, in our environment, in child care, in our veterans, in mental health, in housing, and in our schools and kids, all while providing sustainable, targeted tax relief for middle-class and working-class families and paying down our state’s debts in order to set future generations up for success.
I was especially pleased to hear Governor Evers’ planned investments in addressing PFAS and other contaminants in our drinking water. When I spoke with Governor Evers earlier this Session about my community’s priorities, tackling PFAS contamination was at the top of the list – I am very happy that Governor Evers is clearly listening to those community priorities, and I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues to ensure that PFAS issues are addressed this Session.
As Governor Evers said tonight, while we may not always agree on every detail or every policy, there is more in his budget that unites our communities than divides them. We have an amazing opportunity before us now to move our state forward, together, and I look forward to productive conversations with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to help ensure that Wisconsin and all of its residents can thrive now and into the future.
