Assembly GOP Block Bill to Feed Kids and Lower Costs
MADISON, Wis - During today's legislative session, Assembly Democrats forced a vote on Healthy School Meals for All which would provide free breakfast and lunch for all students. This bill could save the average family approximately $150 a month per child, or $1,800 annually by keeping grocery costs low. Assembly Republicans unanimously voted to block consideration of this bill. In response, Representative Anderson (D-Beloit) released the following statement:
“The day after Governor Evers outlined his plan for making this year the ‘Year of the Kid’, Assembly Republicans unequivocally voted against that premise and are not focused on real solutions.
“While the cost of groceries are going up, the cost of energy is going up, and property taxes are constantly going up, Assembly Republicans unanimously voted against taking action that would lower the cost for families at the grocery store and help our students. Hungry children are not a Democratic or Republican issue, it's one that affects families across Wisconsin.”
