It has been very busy in the Capitol, and we now have a budget.
After months of conversations with other legislators, draft documents, caucus meetings, impromptu delays and much much more - we have a budget.
I also helped Orfordville ring in 125 years, celebrated our nation's founding with some great music, walked in solidarity with striking healthcare workers, and got some much needed time with Sully!
2025-2027 Biennial Budget
The 2025-2027 biennial budget is now law. After months of chaotic processes and a very long day in session, Governor Evers signed the budget bill around 1:30 AM last Thursday morning. While my Democratic counterparts in the Senate negotiated and secured, among other victories, a historic investment in the UW System, the budget simply did not go far enough to likewise invest in our K-12 public schools. I voted against it.
This budget leaves our local school districts to make up the difference and fall into a never-ending cycle of referendum and property tax increases. I offered an amendment to help relieve this pressure, but that was voted down.
Orfordville's 125th Anniversary
State Senator Mark Spreitzer and I had the honor of presenting a legislative citation in celebration of Orfordville’s 125th anniversary! It was great to explore the village’s history through old photos and documents. Huge thanks to everyone who helped organize such a memorable event!
Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra
Danielle and I enjoyed a beautiful evening with the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra before the fireworks on the Fourth of July! Great turnout and a fantastic show!
UAW Local 95 Strike
Support staff went on strike last week at Mercy East Clinic in Janesville. While I don't represent Janesville, I wholeheartedly support all workers who stand up for what they deserve.
UAW Local 95 represents nurses, physical therapists, medical assistants, and maintenance staff at the clinic. I walked the picket line and learned that they are trying to get tighter security in the clinic as well as fair health insurance cost sharing.
Solidarity!
Sully at The Carom Room
Great food, cold drinks, and some of the best pool tables in town. Locally owned, always welcoming, and the oldest continuously operating pool hall in Wisconsin. Come check it out for yourself!
