It has calmed down in Madison lately. The budget is passed but we are continuing to identify any items that were left out of the budget process and seeing where we can make improvements.
Some areas that need this attention include general aid to K-12 schools, working more on my small police agencies grant bill, the Veterans Housing and Recovery Program, the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, and more. In addition, we will be leading the charge on a bill to get more tools and resources to local governments.
I've also been spending some time in the district as always. Sully sniffed out a good book, Governor Evers stopped by to highlight a new project in Beloit, and I was invited to be a judge for Rock County Jumpstart's STEM Showcase.
Beloit Riverwalk Extension
I was proud to join Governor Evers, Senator Spreitzer, city officials, business leaders, and community members for the ribbon cutting of the new riverwalk extension in Beloit.
This project is a strong example of a public-private partnership working to improve sustainability, economic opportunity, and access to outdoor recreation. The City received funding support from the Wisconsin DNR through a Municipal Flood Control Grant, a Stewardship Local Assistance Grant, and a Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program Grant. These funds support the removal of a long-vacant building from the Rock River and help extend the Rock River Trail and Downtown Riverwalk.
The City of Beloit contributed $500,000 toward the riverwalk extension, while private developers are providing the local match for the building demolition. No city funds are being used for the demolition itself.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this vision a reality. It’s exciting to see this new riverfront space open to the community!
Rock County Jumpstart STEM Showcase
I had a lot of fun judging Rock County Jumpstart’s STEM Showcase!
18 Black entrepreneurs showcased projects in AI, coding, web development, 3D printing, and more. These are all tools they’re using to grow their businesses.
Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and creativity, and a huge thanks to Genia Stevens for her incredible leadership. Innovation is alive and well in Rock County!
Sully Stops by The Rogue Bookshop
Sully was sniffing for a good book and ended up at Beloit's newest book store, The Rogue Bookshop! This Sully Sunday is highlighting their opening weekend in downtown Beloit. Stop on by and check out a good book!
