In District Swearing In, Governor's Budget, And Sully Sundays

Welcome to my regular updates from the Wisconsin State Capitol. It has been a busy first month, but I am excited to share a few announcements including an upcoming in district swearing in ceremony, my response to the Governor’s budget, and an update from myself and my dog Sully on interesting places to visit in the district.

In District Swearing In

I will be having a local swearing in ceremony on Saturday, February 25th, at 12 pm at the Beloit Public Library in the Community Room. The ceremony will be performed by Circuit Court Judge Ashley Morse. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.

Governor's Budget

The Governor released his 2023-25 biennial budget proposal this week. I am pleased to see the Governor has included several items that are vital to the people of the 45th assembly district. These include sending 20% of the state’s sales tax back to local communities as shared revenue. This is a more than 500 million dollar investment in local communities and includes 250 million dollars for public safety. This is a desperately needed investment in law enforcement, fire, and EMS that will help communities all across the 45th district.

The Governor also came out with a strong commitment to lower taxes. This includes a 10% tax cut for the middle class, expanding the state Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, and repealing the outdated personal property tax. I will fight hard to pass these provisions to provide needed relief for Wisconsin businesses and working families.

I also strongly support the Governor’s proposed historic investment in K-12 education totaling more than 2.6 billion dollars over the biennium. This includes a billion dollars distributed through the state’s general equalization aid formula and over a billion dollars in special education funding. Our schools are in crisis, and this much needed investment will help children and schools all over the district.

Sully Sundays

Every Sunday I am traveling around the district with my dog Sully to visit and highlight interesting local places and businesses. Last week, Sully visited Food is Fuel, which is a bulletproof coffee and breakfast sandwich shop in Orfordville. He also stopped by Bountiful Beloit, which is a business with farm fresh vegetables, CSA shares, eco-friendly products, organic groceries, pottery, and jewelry. You can follow Sully’s Sunday adventures around the district on my Facebook or Twitter. Do you know of a great business or place in the 45th district?
