The Assembly heard a number of bills this week that I would have loved to support. We talked about hearing protection for police and first responders, talent recruitment grants for prospective residents, streamlining minors' health information for first responders, and more. Unfortunately, these bills attached no new funding. I can't support a policy - even good policy - if it means other programs will suffer.
It was a great week in the district! I got to one more Juneteenth event, saw my brother for a bite, Sully got some sun, and we have a new small business in Orfordville to check out!
Hearing Protection for First Responders
Senate Bill 283 was before the Assembly this week, and unfortunately I had to vote against a great idea. This bill would have provided for protection from long-term hearing damage for our police and first responders, but there was no money attached to actually put it in practice. I urged my Republican colleagues to approve my amendment to provide this funding, but they sadly voted against the people who keep our communities safe.
Congratulations to a New Small Business in Orfordville
I was able to join Snacks and Stuff to celebrate their ribbon cutting in Orfordville! It’s always exciting to see a new business open in the 45th. I’m looking forward to stopping by again soon!
Telfer Park Juneteenth Celebration
Grateful to have spent part of last weekend at Telfer Park celebrating Juneteenth with the community. The energy was uplifting, the vendors were fantastic, and it was great to see so many amazing people. A big thank you to the Elite Ladies of Beloit for bringing everyone together for such a meaningful and inspiring event.
Thanks for letting me stop by your booth, Yusuf!
Beloit EAA Hamburger Fly-In
It was great to stop by the Beloit EAA Chapter’s Hamburger Social Fly-In at the Beloit Airport! The weather didn’t fully cooperate, but it was still a great time connecting with folks. With my brother Spencer being a pilot, I always appreciate events like this even more.
Sully at Armstrong Eddy Park
This week, we got out to Armstrong Eddy Park in the Town of Beloit for Sully Sunday! With a pavilion, playground, and boat launch, it’s a great spot to enjoy the outdoors. Sully loved watching the river and sniffing around the open space. Check it out next time you’re looking for a fun place to relax outside.
