Fairbanks Morse, Stewart Tunnel, Unemployment, and Sully
In this e-update, I toured Fairbanks Morse, visited the Stewart Tunnel with Lt. Governor Sara Rodriguez, voted against gutting the unemployment insurance system, and visited Bullwinkles Coffee & More with Sully.
Fairbanks Morse Tour
Fairbanks Morse Defense has a rich history in Beloit. I recently had the opportunity to tour the plant. The staff shared how long they have been there and what they enjoy about the jobs they do. It was truly impressive to see the level of skill it takes to build engines for the US Coast Guard and Navy.
Toured the Stewart Tunnel with Lt. Governor Sara Rodriguez
I joined Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez and State Senator Mark Spreitzer on a visit of the Stewart Tunnel. This important part of the Badger State Trail has been closed since 2019 due to safety concerns. I am pleased that the Governor included funding for repairs in his Capital Budget. This tunnel brings visitors to the 45th and the 80th district. Let's reopen it!
Republicans Vote to Gut the Unemployment SystemLast week I voted against a series of Republican bills focused on fundamentally changing the Wisconsin Unemployment System. These bills would make it harder for people to get unemployment insurance benefits. They pushed this agenda instead of working towards real workforce development solutions such as expanding access to affordable child care.
Sully Sunday
It was raining, but Sully still wanted to do this week's Sully Sunday. Sully and I stopped by Bullwinkles Coffee & More in Brodhead. This drive-through business makes ordering food, drinks, or ice cream quick and easy. Sully said the dirty turtle I ordered smelled delicious. We look forward to visiting again! If you have a recommendation for where Sully should go next, nominate a location here.
