Corporal Benjamin H. Neal Highway, AI in Elections, Soybean Processing, and Sully

In this e-update, I joined Governor Evers as he signed my bills into law for a highway section dedicated to Corporal Benjamin H. Neal, a new Evansville soybean processing plant, and a requirement for disclosure of AI in campaign ads. I also visited the San Burr Family Restaurant with Sully.

Act 215 - Corporal Benjamin H. Neal Highway Dedication

Governor Tony Evers came to Orfordville to sign 2023 Act 215 into law. Now, a section of Highway 11 will be dedicated to the memory of Corporal Benjamin H. Neal. A graduate of Parkview High School, Corporal Neal paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our country. His military honors include the Purple Heart, NATO Medal, the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. I appreciate everyone who contributed to this meaningful effort.

Act 123 - AI Disclosure in Campaign Ads

Last week, Governor Evers signed my AI disclosure bill into law. Act 123 will provide a disclaimer on any audio and video campaign materials which are substantially generated by AI. With the proliferation of AI, this is an important step in protecting public trust and our democratic decision making process. Thank you to State Senator Mark Spreitzer, State Senator Romaine Robert Quinn, and Rep. Adam Neylon for working on this with me.

Act 135 - Evansville Soybean Processing Plant

With the Governor’s signature of 2023 Act 135, the City of Evansville has the green light to bring jobs and economic activity to the region through a partnership with agricultural cooperative CHS to build a new $700 million soybean processing facility. I introduced this bipartisan legislation with State Senator Mark Spreitzer at the request of city officials. Rock County is the largest soybean producer in the state, and the majority of Wisconsin soybeans are grown within a 100-mile radius of Evansville. Act 135 grants a one-time exception to state statutes limiting tax incremental financing districts in order to help make this project a reality. I look forward to seeing this project advance!

#SullySunday

This last week, Sully and I stopped by the Sand Burr Family Restaurant in Brodhead. They offer great food, a large menu, and a warm atmosphere. Sully and I strongly recommend the pancakes.
