Plumer Attends Opening of Columbia County Public Target Range
Poynette… Rep. Jon Plumer (R-Town of Lodi) was in attendance today as Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Dan Meyer cut the ribbon to mark the opening of Wisconsin’s newest no-fee public shooting range on public land. The Columbia County Public Target Range at the Mud Lake Wildlife Area is the first of its kind in more than 20 years to open for residents in southern Wisconsin.
The new shooting range’s construction was a public-private partnership between the DNR and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with donations from private entities such as the Columbia County Sporting Alliance and the Wisconsin River Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Foundation. The range includes shooting lanes for rifle, shotgun, and pistol use.
Plumer commented, “This new and impressive, no-fee public shooting range is a great addition to Columbia County. It will allow hunters and shooting enthusiasts a safe place to hone their skills and the range provides more opportunities for residents to engage in Wisconsin’s outdoor sporting heritage. I’m elated this facility is in the heart of the 42nd Assembly District and I’m excited to have it finally open after five years in the making.”
