State Assembly Floor Session

This week on Tuesday, the Wisconsin State Assembly held another floor session. Some of the bills that we voted on this week included a package of bills from a larger legislative effort called the HOPE agenda. These bills focus on combating our State's opioid and substance abuse epidemic. As chair of the Committee on Substance Abuse and Prevention, I have had the opportunity to do a deep dive and learn about the epidemic that our state is facing and I believe that these bills are a step in the right direction. I am looking forward to seeing the great impact that this legislation is going to have in communities and lives throughout Wisconsin.

We also voted to pass AJR 118 proclaiming January 22nd Protect Life Day in Wisconsin. As long as I am in office, I am committed to protecting life and the unborn. I am glad the assembly took the time to recognize this day and the importance of protecting all lives.

HOPE Agenda Press Conference

On Tuesday, I attended a press conference with several of my colleagues to discuss the latest success of the HOPE agenda. We announced a partnership to expand access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Access to MAT will be expanded across Wisconsin health plans through the elimination of prior authorization requirements in most cases. Prior authorization is the requirement that a doctor obtains approval from a health insurance plan before prescribing a treatment plan or prescription. Major health insurance companies in Wisconsin have agreed to remove prior authorization requirements for most substance use disorder treatments. This expansion of access will allow individuals suffering from substance abuse disorder to get treatment faster, easier, and at a lower cost.

It has been an honor to work alongside my colleagues to protect our state's citizens against substance abuse in our communities - I truly believe this partnership will save lives throughout our state.

This Tuesday, a local Dodge County 4-H member, Kendra Gillett, was presented with a citation because of her grand achievement of receiving the 4-H Key Award. This award is given to 4-H students throughout the state who show hard work and the development of strong leadership skills.

Congratulations Kendra!

The State of the State

SOTS canva.png (1)This week on Wednesday night, I attended the Wisconsin State of the State Address and had the opportunity to hear from Governor Evers. I hope to continue to work with my colleagues and Governor Evers to ensure that your taxes are low and government stays accountable to the people of the state. I look forward to working together more in the future.

Busy in Committee

Testimony Collage 590.pngThis week, two bills that I have authored were given public hearings. On Wednesday, I testified on AB 690 in the Assembly Committee on Corrections. This bill aims to deter the delivery of contraband into state prisons and jails. The following day, I testified on AB 681 in the Committee on Local Government. This bill would require a county board to achieve a three fourths majority vote on ordinance only affecting towns.

ABATE Group Visit

On Thursday this week, I was able to meet with members of the ABATE group. ABATE is a group that works to give motorcyclists throughout Wisconsin a voice to protect their rights and increase our state's motorcycle safety efforts. Thank you for all that you do!
