Taiwan Legislators Trip

I was honored to be able to join my colleagues from around the Midwest in July for a good will tour of Taiwan. The tour, sponsored by the Minister of Foreign Affairs for North America, included 8 legislators from Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota and the State Treasurer from Illinois. The focus of our trip was to meet with government officials and tour their facilities in an effort to increase trade from the Midwest to Taiwan as well as look for future investment opportunities here in our states. While it was a very interesting and productive trip, I was ready to get back to Wisconsin and enjoy some Midwest cuisine!

NCSL Convention

In early August, I joined legislators from around the country for the annual NCSL convention in Nashville. The National Conference of State Legislators is a non-partisan organization that provides valuable training on numerous public service topics. The seminars made available to us are as diverse as the problems each individual state faces. I look forward to working together with my colleagues on both sides of the isle to implement some of the great ideas we’ve come back with!

Senate Bill 144 Testimony

Testify 081319-05.JPG

This week I testified with my colleagues Senator Kathy Bernier and Representative Jim Steineke in front of the Senate Committee on Utilities and Housing for our respective homelessness bills. Senate Bill 144 is a bipartisan bill that is built off recommendations made from last year's Interagency Council on Homelessness and would provide grants to divert fellow Wisconsinites from experiencing homelessness due to a temporary income shock, such as through a medical emergency or a loss of a job. I look forward to working with my colleagues on this bill in order for it to make it to the Governor's desk.
