Welcome to my e-update

Hello, my name is Representative Alex Dallman and I would like to thank you for signing up to my e-update. As your Representative, I believe it is vitally important for me to keep my constituents informed of the work that I am doing in the State Capitol and across the 41st District.

Budget Listening Session

I want to give another thank you to my constituents who came out to my budget listening session that was held in Ripon this past week. There were a lot of good questions and I appreciate the concerns that were given. If you weren't able to make it, please send us your questions or concerns by email.

I want to also give a special thank you to Representative Mark Born, Assembly Chair of the Joint Finance Committee for taking the time to drive to my district and assist my constituents with their questions related to the budget.

Session

On Tuesday, I voted in favor of 11 bills related to the legislature's plan to invest one-time, federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to state priorities. These bills help our local small businesses, the tourism industry, the state economy, all while providing aid to households, helping long-term facilities, and investing in broadband expansion.

I also was given the opportunity to speak on the Assembly bill for the first time in support of my bill, Assembly Bill 234.

Testimony on AB 158

On Thursday, I testified on Assembly Bill 158 in the Committee on Judiciary.

Under current law, it is a Class B forfeiture if the person commits harassment. Under this bill, if this harassment is made against a sports official, such as a referee, umpire, judge, or person performing a similar function, and it is an attempt to intimidate or influence an action by a sports official, it becomes a Class A misdemeanor.

As a licensed sports official for over the past 10 years, I have been verbally and even physically confronted on a personal level while officiating sports. It has become an increasing issue across all levels of sports and harassment has directly led to the decline of people entering the sports official path and staying involved in it.

I believe this bill will take a large step towards deterring the verbal and physical abuse that sports officials are currently experiencing, and will allow our youth sport environments to be a much more welcoming and positive environment.

UW-Madison Legislative Day

On Wednesday, I met with UW alumni and students for their annual UW-Madison Legislative Day at the Capitol. I was happy to learn more about UW-Madison's budget requests and their goals for remaining a top-ranked University for generations to come.
