Session
This week in session, I voted with my Assembly colleagues in passing Assembly Bill 717, which requires an income and franchise tax exemption for restaurant owners who received a Restaurant Revitalization Fund grant.
This Restaurant Revitalization Fund was crucial for restaurants to stay in business and retain their employees. We saw over the last two years how thousands of restaurants have struggled to make ends meet and I think it would make things worse, by taxing these emergency lifelines.
AB 717 updates the Wisconsin tax code treatment of Restaurant Revitalization Fund grants to conform to federal tax code, treating these grants as nontaxable income.
Stronger Workforce Press Conference
On Tuesday, I joined several of my Assembly colleagues in a press conference to announce a bill package that will work to address a stronger workforce.
My bill, LRB 2943/1, would determine the maximum weeks of eligibility for individuals based upon the current unemployment rate. Benefit weeks would max out at 26 if the unemployment rate was over 9%. The amount of weeks would be reduced according to the table included in the bill all the way down to 14 weeks if unemployment levels reach 3.5%.
Special Committee Assignment
This week, I was appointed to serve as the Vice-Chair of a newly formed Special Committee on Trade and Supply Chain. I look forward to working with Chair, Representative Rob Brooks, on these important issues.

Wisconsin Restaurant Association Lobby Day
On Wednesday, I got the opportunity to meet with a few constituents from the 41st District for the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Lobby Day. We were able to discuss a few pieces of legislation that would help out our local restaurants here in the State of Wisconsin and I am happy to support them in any way that I can!
