Representative Dallman Votes to Fund Police

Madison, WI --- Representative Alex Dallman voted to support law enforcement in communities throughout the State of Wisconsin by voting for a bill that decreases shared revenue payments to municipalities who cut funding for their police departments.

Representative Dallman provided the following statement in response to today’s vote:

“It is very important to me that we support our law enforcement, EMS and fire departments. By continuing “defund the police”, we certainly are not making our local communities any safer. As funding for our law enforcement and safety personnel is decreased in municipalities across our country, we have seen the rise of violent crime. I am proud to vote for a bill that encourages safer communities and the rule of law.”

In cases where fewer officers are truly warranted, this bill allows municipalities to enter into cooperative agreements to share law enforcement with other units of government or to transfer responsibility to another unit of government to avoid a cut to shared revenue.

Additionally, municipalities with fewer than 30 law enforcement officers, fire department members, or emergency medical responders would be exempt under the amended bill. The bill also exempts from a reduction in shared revenue, departments that spend less in a fiscal year, but still employ the same number of officers.
