Representative Dallman Votes for Workforce Recovery Legislation in Veto Override Attempt

Madison, WI ---Today, Representative Dallman voted to override Governor Evers’ veto of Assembly Bill 336, which inspires unemployed Wisconsinites to return-to-work as businesses and employees operate through a worker shortage. This bill would have ended Wisconsin’s participation in federal unemployment money enhancement programs which discourage able-bodied adults from returning to work.

“Governor Evers made a huge mistake when he vetoed the termination of weekly unemployment enhancements of $300,” said Representative Dallman. “I am proud of my colleagues and I for stepping up and addressing the labor crisis within the State of Wisconsin and removing the unnecessary bonus.”

The federal supplement provides an additional $300 per week on top of state benefits, which is supposed to expire on September 6, 2021.

This bill (AB 336) ends Wisconsin’s presence in the following federal programs:

  • Pandemic unemployment assistance (PUA) program
  • Pandemic Emergency Unemployment compensation (PEUC) program
  • Federal pandemic unemployment compensation (FPUC) program
  • Mixed earner unemployment compensation (MEUC) program

“I have noticed in other states who have removed the enhanced UI benefits, people are going back to work, so why can’t Wisconsin follow suit?” Representative Dallman said. “Democrats are refusing to acknowledge legitimate facts and it is extremely difficult for small business owners who are doing everything they can to compete with the government to attract workers and stay afloat.”

This piece of legislation also requires that individuals who file for Unemployment Insurance, are actively searching for a job to be eligible to collect benefits. The Governor waived that requirement last year through an emergency rule. Unfortunately, the democrats have chosen to blindly follow the Governor’s weak leadership, causing the override to fail with a 59-37 vote.
