Representative Dallman Responds to Governor’s Budget Address

Madison, WI ---Tonight, Governor Evers gave his FY 2021-2023 budget address virtually while legislators tuned in from the Assembly chamber. Representative Dallman has released the following statements in response to Governor Evers budget proposal:

“For the last decade, Republican policies have put Wisconsin in a very good place financially. To be able to battle through a pandemic and to be able to be positively positioned to bounce back, says a lot about our great state. We must continue to lead the way in lowering taxes and decreasing the footprint of government, which allows our hard working families and businesses to grow, prosper, and flourish.”

“I was happy to see that there are items in the Governor’s budget proposal that I believe need to be prioritized. I am certain that we can find common ground with the Governor on issues such as the continued investment into both rural broadband expansion and our technical college system, while also the taking steps to make sure we protect our environment. I am excited to work toward the common goal of strengthening our rural communities and investing in our common objectives.”

“The Governor’s budget proposal, however, includes a number of disruptive, non-fiscal policies that do not belong in the budget. In my opinion, these budget items, such as marijuana decriminalization, a repeal of Act 10, and a complete overhaul of the criminal justice system, should be considered separately, so that the general public can have more direct input. Broad policy issues should be introduced as individual legislation to ensure the people of Wisconsin could give it a proper review instead of being jammed into a larger budget package. The amount of non-fiscal policies in this budget are frustrating, but I have the confidence in the Legislature to work with the Governor to craft a more responsible budget for the people of Wisconsin. ”

“I am also disappointed to see that Governor Evers is continuing where he left off with his first budget proposal where he raised taxes on the working class and vastly increased spending. We must remain fiscally conservative and responsible stewards of the taxpayers’ money. I look forward to further review of the budget and making sure that its focus mirrors the priorities of the citizens of the 41st District and the State of Wisconsin.”
