E-Update for September 20 - September 24
Nominate a 2021 First Responder of the Year!

My office is now accepting nominations for the 2021 First Responder of the Year Award from the 39th Assembly District. Created in 2019, this award highlights the great work the brave men and women of our emergency services do each and every day to keep our communities safe.

Last session, I was proud to recognize Bob Belling from the Town of Lomira as our community’s First Responder of the Year. Bob has been a volunteer firefighter with the Knowles Fire Department for over 40 years and has served as fire chief for over 25 years. His dedication and commitment to our area does not go unnoticed and we are all very blessed to have people like Bob serving our community.

Do you know someone who deserves to be recognized for their service? One individual will be selected and invited to join me in Madison at the State Capitol to be recognized on the Assembly Floor in October.

Nominations are due no later than Friday, October 8th. You can nominate someone by filling out an online form on my website or by sending the name, contact information and brief description of the candidate to Rep.Born@legis.wisconsin.gov.

Find the online submission form here.

Touring LKQ Corporation in Hustisford

This week I visited LKQ Corporation's site in Hustisford with State Senator John Jagler. Facility Manager Debbie Ninmann was a great tour guide. Thanks for showing us around!

Submit Your District Plan

Last month in my E-Update, I encouraged my constituents to visit a new website the Wisconsin State Legislature put together that allows residents to draw and submit their own maps for the legislature to review during the district drawing process.

The website is live, and maps can be submitted through October 15th. The redistricting process is important to our state and is required by the Wisconsin Constitution, and I hope my constituents play an active role in this process.

Request Your 2021 - 2022 Blue Books!

The budget writing committee spends months putting together a budget that aims to represent the best interests of citizens all across Wisconsin. From additional funding for our local roads, to making sure our health care providers have the resources they need to provide access to quality, affordable health care, the budget contains hundreds of investments in important areas.

While some investments don't get covered by the media, they are still important. That's why over the next few weeks, my weekly newsletter will highlight some of the provisions that didn't make the headlines. This is your state budget, and you deserve to know where your tax dollars are being spent wisely.

Knowles-Nelson Stewardship

Wisconsin's natural resources, parks, and outdoor scenery are a source of pride for all Wisconsin residents. They provide a great opportunity for everyone to get out of the house and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. They're also a magnet for tourism in our state.

In the budget, we reauthorized the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program until 2026, allocating $33.25 million annually. Under this program, the Wisconsin DNR is authorized to acquire land to expand
recreational opportunities and protect environmentally sensitive areas, develop outdoor recreational facilities on state conservation lands, and provide grants to counties for local land improvements. This is the program that also helped fund the new Palmatory Picnic Shelter at the Horicon Marsh.

A big supporter of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, the Horicon Marsh, and the great outdoors of Wisconsin, is Ducks Unlimited.

Earlier this month, Wisconsin State Senator John Jagler and I attended the Ducks Unlimited Banquet Dinner at Bayside Supper Club in Beaver Dam, where we had the chance to speak with National Ducks Unlimited President Doug Schoenrock. Thanks for inviting us!
