E-Update for June 21 - June 25
Supporting our Police Officers and First Responders

This week, I joined my Assembly colleagues in supporting Wisconsin’s law enforcement community by voting for legislation that would decrease state payments to municipalities who cut funding for their police departments. This bill includes the same provisions for our firefighters and EMS workers.

Across the country, and unfortunately right here in our communities, we have heard calls to defund the police. Under this proposal, if local governments have the desire to cut police funding, then they will see a comparable reduction in state aid.

Now more than ever, we need to be supporting our law enforcement, EMS, and fire departments. These individuals provide essential services to our community and cutting their budgets will not help make Wisconsin any safer. I am proud to support this legislation and the brave men and women who provide these critical public safety services to our area.

Protecting our Election Process

I also supported on the Assembly floor several bills that protect Wisconsin's election process. The package of bills that I proudly voted for does the following:

  • Close voter ID loopholes
  • Standardize ballot collection procedures
  • Protect votes of seniors in long-term care
  • Ensure only voters make corrections to their ballot
  • Establish uniform distance for recount observers
Getting Rid of Wisconsin's Personal Property Tax

This Wednesday, the budget-writing committee voted for a bill that will eliminate our state's personal property tax. This bill will be included in the state budget bill that the Legislature will soon vote on.

This tax has been a burden on our state's businesses and puts Wisconsin at a disadvantage compared to our neighboring states who have already done away with the tax. It's common sense to remove it and I was happy to vote for this bill in committee.
