FIGHTING FOR OUR LIVES

Whether it involves health care, COVID-19, government overreach, or life-affirming legislation, Rep. Dittrich spent the lion’s share of this week fighting for the very lives of Wisconsinites.

LEGISLATION

KAYLEIGH'S LAW

Assembly Bill 520 empowers victims to request a lifetime restraining order against their convicted rapists and needs the support of every legislator.

This bill will empower victims rather than giving judges the opportunity to refuse a victim a lifetime restraining order against their convicted rapist.

COVID-19

Too often in government the nuance of any given situation is completely disregarded, which only adds to the polarization in our culture. That has certainly been the case with COVID-19.

While COVID-19 IS real and should be taken seriously, people need to be their own best medical advocates. That is why Rep. Dittrich immediately signed on to the bill authored by Representative Cody Horlacher that would require employers to also include proof of natural immunity to the virus if they are requiring employees to be tested and/or vaccinated.

GOVERNMENT OVERREACH

Since COVID-19 first reached our state, agencies like the Department of Health Services and the Wisconsin Elections Commission have overstepped their legal boundaries by passing off guidance from their agencies as if it was the rule of law. This is a flagrant attempt to circumvent the regular legislative and rule-making process set forth in Wisconsin state statute, and it is time we said ENOUGH! This week, Senator Nass and Representative Dittrich introduced two bills to rein in this agency overreach.

AFFIRMING WORK OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE DISABLED

From Rep. Dittrich's nearly two decades of working in the disability and special needs community, she realizes that each person is a unique individual. That is why she was honored to join Senator Steve Nass in introducing a resolution recognizing Employment Choice First as a means to preserve the dignity, self-esteem, and pride of individuals with disabilities in Wisconsin.

PRO-LIFE LEGISLATION GETS A HEARING IN ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE

This week, the Assembly Committee on Health held a hearing on many different pieces of legislation surrounding caring for life at every age, stage, and ability. Rep. Dittrich was proud to author one-third of the bills heard by the committee.

Re[p. Dittrich shared testimony on AB 493, authored with Senator Duey Stroebel, that would ensure Medicare/Medicaid funding is allocated to women's health clinics around the state that treat EVERY women's health issue, not Planned Parenthood.

Senator Patrick Testin and Rep. Dittrich testified on AB 594 and AB 595 creating education and support for parents who receive a prenatal diagnosis, and prohibiting abortion based upon discriminatory characteristics, including congenital diagnosis like Down Syndrome. Although Democrats on the committee applauded those with Down Syndrome and Autism who testified earlier, the staffer of Senator Chris Larson tweeted out his disgusting thoughts supporting eugenics while Sen. Testin and Rep. Dittrich were testifying.

Thankfully, Wisconsin State Senator John Jagler, who parents a remarkable young woman who just happens to have an extra 21st chromosome, called him out, and the coward deleted his tweet.

All three of Rep. Dittrich's bills have been scheduled for a committee vote next week before they move on to the floor of the full Assembly.

WORKFORCE HOUSING CHALLENGES

What we used to refer to as "starter homes," or as others refer to as "attainable housing," is in desperate shortage. We are not talking about low-income housing. It's apartments or homes that the average, hard-working Wisconsinites can afford.

Rep. Dittrich was happy to sign on as a co-sponsor of a package of bills that her colleagues put forward to address these issues. It will help people rehab existing, unlivable homes, and equip municipalities to improve this situation in their communities.

SPORTING FREEDOM

Legislative Republicans released the Wisconsin Sporting Freedom Package - a 13-bill effort to defend hunting rights, support anglers, right-size DNR regulations, and enhance our #2A freedoms in Wisconsin.

Rep. Dittrich has already signed on to some of the bills in this package and is eager to monitor their progress in the legislative process.

INTERACTION WITH SCHOOL BOARDS

Given the recent declaration from the US Dept of Justice, Rep. Dittrich certainly hopes that the first people US Attorney General Merrick Garland goes after those who threatened Waukesha School Board members for not accepting "free lunch for all." It is NEVER okay to threaten and harass elected officials and their families.

At the same time, parents should NOT let this action silence them when it comes to making their position known on what's occurring in their child's school. If you don't like what you're seeing in your child's education, make you opinion known and send them elsewhere if it doesn't improve.
