APPLAUDING WISCONSINITES

We spent this week applauding so many Wisconsinites...

During times of adversity, the cream rises to the top. Parents and students have never appreciated the value of a dedicated, selfless educator quite like they have this past year. THANK YOU to those making a difference.

When we're running away from danger, they're running towards it. This spring has been a tough one for fires in our state. THANK YOU to all of the fire fighters who answer the call for help every day!

It was National Skilled Trades Day this week too! We need so many more students in this area of the workforce. As the mother of a welder, Rep. Dittrich can share how young adults can be earning good money and be school-debt-free with a promising career by pursuing the trades.

Happy National Nurses Day to every angel of mercy, every loving caregiver, whether it be in a hospital, clinic, or home care setting. We are forever grateful for you, especially after what you've endured during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And don't forget Mother's Day!

Being a mother is one of the hardest jobs and greatest privileges of my life. May every Wisconsin mom enjoy a full heart as we honor you across the nation this weekend!

VISITING THE BORDER CRISIS

Last week, two members of our Assembly leadership, Rep. Steineke and Rep. August, spent a few days at the Southern border of the US.

If you are unaware of how something so far away affects Wisconsin, you will want to know that thousands of the illegal immigrants end up in Wisconsin. This situation is a 50-State, humanitarian crisis for all of us with people dying, humans being enslaved and trafficked, and drugs being smuggled.

Next week, the Assembly will vote on a joint resolution requesting the Governor to send aid down to help with the crisis on the Southern border.

DRUG TAKE BACK DAY

We were excited to learn that our Drug Take Back Day resulted in Wisconsin being the #2 state in the nation in collection of unused prescription drugs. Well done, Wisconsin! Let’s keep moving forward as we continue this battle against addiction in our State.

We hope to see you at the upcoming Jump for Archie in Oconomowoc next weekend as well.

This year's Jump for Archie will have a concert with an international performer and an American Idol contestant

WAUKESHA COUNTY POLICE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION

Wednesday the Waukesha County Police Chiefs Association welcomed legislators representing districts in the county for their annual roundtable discussion. We thank both the chiefs and the county stakeholders for their feedback on legislative issues affecting law enforcement.

BUDGET DAY

Thursday was “Budget Day” in the State Capitol as the Joint Committee on Finance began voting on how to proceed with the biennial State Budget.

Hundreds of policy items, that do not belong in a budget but rather should be addressed as separate legislation, were removed from the document, and the committee commenced on shaping a reasonable, responsible spending plan on which all Wisconsinites can agree.

CONSTITUENT CORNER

It was Rep. Dittrich's honor to make time in her day to meet with Katie Michel, a newly elected official from the Deerfield portion of the 38th Assembly District.

Barb always appreciates strong women who are willing to take the risk of stepping into public service. Deerfield will be blessed by Katie’s service on both the school board AND town board!
