CAPITOL REOPENS

Rep. Dittrich and her office staff were back in our Capitol office, hard at work by June 1st of last year despite the building remaining closed to the general public.

She is so happy to let you all know that beginning on Tuesday this week, the administration is finally moving towards opening your Wisconsin Capitol in earnestness. Beginning Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the State Capitol Building opened for public access. The DOA announced the following building hours for public access:

  • Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. — 6:00 p.m.
  • Weekends/Holidays from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The State Capitol Tour Desk will return to its pre-pandemic staffing hours for visitor information. Tours of the Capitol and the Capitol Museum are not scheduled to resume until July.

WORK REQUIREMENT BILL

Employers throughout Wisconsin are desperate for workers. Enhanced federal unemployment compensation benefits have created a disincentive for people to return-to-work and make it difficult for employers to hire for open jobs. Employers are unable to compete with the federal government’s unemployment insurance (UI) payments, which are often paying people more to stay home than they would earn at work. This is why when AB 336 was rolled out weeks ago, Rep. Dittrich shared her support for the bill.

AB 336 was passed by the Assembly Committee on Workforce Developement (of which Rep. Dittrich is a member) and is scheduled to be taken up for a vote by the full Assembly next week. AB 336 has already passed the Senate Committee on Labor and Regulatory Reform and is expected to be scheduled for a vote by the full Senate soon.

The bill also prohibits DWD from waiving the work search requirements for any reason that is related to COVID.

PROTECTING WOMEN IN SPORTS ACT UPDATE

This week, AB 195 (UW competition level) passed the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities 10-5. AB 196 (K-12 competition level) is scheduled for a committee vote next week.

Both bills are expected to be scheduled for a vote by the full Assembly in the coming weeks.

VACCINE BILLS HEARD IN ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE

On Wednesday, the Assembly Committee on Constitution and Ethics held a hearing on a package of bills protecting civil liberties and prohibiting various entities, including schools and employers, from prohibitions and discrimination based on COVID-19 vaccine status.

Bills heard in the committee include:

  • AB 299 - prohibiting proof of vaccination for COVID-19 as a condition of receiving business and government services.
  • AB 303 - prohibiting businesses from discriminating against customers due to vaccination record.
  • AB 309 - prohibiting discrimination based on vaccination status.
  • AB 316 - prohibiting discrimination based on whether the person has received a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • AB 347 - prohibiting University of Wisconsin System institutions and technical colleges from requiring testing for, or vaccination against, the 2019 novel coronavirus.

GOP INTRODUCES BILLS TO BAN CRITICAL RACE THEORY

Critical Race Theory has it's roots in Marxism and hatred of Caucasians. It does not teach empathy nor foster mutual respect. Our schools need to stop this divisive indoctrination and get back to academics as racial disparities have only grown under flawed COVID policies.

JUNE IS DAIRY MONTH

One of Rep. Dittrich's greatest privileges in serving the people of the great 38th has been learning more about farming and it's economic impact on our state. She hopes you will join her in celebrating dairy month with cool refreshments from one of our many wonderful local businesses.
