February begins Black History Month. Join Rep. Dittrich in celebrating the trailblazers, innovators, and achievers who accomplished so much in the face of incredible adversity.
AMERICAN HEART MONTH
WEAR RED DAY
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America and is 80% preventable. Wear Red Day is our annual reminder to pay attention to our heart health.
IN MADISON
SCHOOL CHOICE OPEN ENROLLMENT
This is indicative of where parents are with their children's education. We need to take steps to ensure parents have every opportunity to apply for school choice, including competent management of the application and enrollment process.
The definition of insanity is doing things the same way and expecting different results. Rep. Dittrich believes we all want our children to succeed, but some of us are willing to boldly change the way we are currently doing things and some of us are not. She is proud to count herself as one of those who is bravely willing to stand with parents and kids as one of the original co-authors on three of the seven educational reform bills that were introduced this week. The bills offer the following:
Removing limits on school charters, enabling more charter schools to be formed. (2 bills)
Enabling City of Milwaukee families to enjoy more localized and responsive school districts with the formation of four to eight smaller districts rather than the one large district that currently exists.
Detailing a "Parents Bill of Rights," codifying the authority that should naturally exist between the parent, child, and school.
Requiring the Department of Public Instruction to have more accountability and give clear transparency of how they formulate their metrics.
Increasing the school property tax credit for residents of school districts that are closed to in-person instruction for more than 10 days of instruction during the second half of the 2021-22 school year.
Removing income and participation limits on the Wisconsin Parental Choice, Milwaukee Parental Choice, and Racine Parental Choice Programs.
Let's get every Wisconsin student moving in the right direction once again by innovatively solving this problem!
WI STATE SUPREME COURT
MAJORITY ON SUPREME COURT REFUSE TO UPHOLD LAW
While Wisconsin Elections Commission Chair Ann Jacobs scoffs at the notion of removing any hint of impropriety in order to assure voter confidence, this issue is far from over. WEC has not complied with JCRAR's directive to promulgate a rule on drop boxes.
Meanwhile, a divided state Supreme Court declined to take up a lawsuit challenging the power of the state Elections Commission brought by Republican candidate for governor Rebecca Kleefisch.
While WEC has thumbed its nose at the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR), more legislation has been introduced to tighten-up election procedures and to amend the State Constitution to ban election grants (commonly known as “Zucker-Bucks” in the 2020 elections).
