We have now officially entered the 2021-2023 budget session process. Although I am not a member of the Joint Finance Committee (JFC), I remain committed to sharing updates on the process and the progress JFC has made thus far. During this process, I will be including regular budget updates, as information is available, as part of my weekly e-update.
As always, please feel free to share any questions regarding the budget process or attend any of my upcoming budget listening sessions around the 38th Assembly District.
BUDGET PROCESS TIMELINE
We are now nearing the end of the period between the introduction of the Governor's budget recommendations and the start of agency briefings. This time allows the Legislative Fiscal Bureau to analyze the budget bill and write its summary. This analysis is absolutely critical and invaluable as we move through the budget process.
Public Hearings: JFC will go on the road to hold public hearings throughout the state. Three regional locations and a virtual option have been chosen to hold these hearings with the goal of maximizing the level of public input. The public is invited to provide input on the provisions in the Governor's budget recommendations.

Votes on the Assembly and Senate Floors: After the budget is passed out of JFC, the bill will be taken up as a whole on the floor of the Senate and Assembly.
The Governor: Once the budget bill has passed through both Houses of the Legislature, it will be delivered to Governor Evers for his signature. Keep in mind that the governor has the power of the line-item veto at this time.
