Rep. Swearingen Visits Florence County Sheriff To Talk Marijuana
This past Spring I had the opportunity to visit Florence County and speak with Sheriff Dan Miller about the consequences of marijuana legalization.Sheriff Miller, State Representative Jeff Mursau of Crivitz and myself crossed the border and visited a dispensary to learn more about Michigan’s recent legalization of marijuana. It’s clear that Michigan’s decision has negatively affected Wisconsin’s border communities. Please click here or the photo below to watch a video of our visit.
Wisconsin State Building Commission Meeting
The Wisconsin State Building Commission met this week to review and vote on state and UW-system building and improvement proposals. The Building Commission, chaired by Governor Evers, is a bi-partisan committee responsible for reviewing and voting on renovation and construction projects. Among the approved projects are renovations of several state correctional facilities and university buildings, including the renovation of the south end zone in Camp Randall Stadium.
The full Building Commission, chaired by Governor Evers, meets in the Governor's Conference Room.
The Higher Education Sub-Committee met earlier in the day to vote on building projects related to the University of Wisconsin-System.
People's State Bank of Rhinelander Community Celebration
Today, I had a chance to stop by the People's State Bank of Rhinelander who held a brat-fry lunch to raise donations for the Rhinelander Military Support Group. The funds raised will help benefit our troops overseas and veterans throughout Wisconsin. People's State Bank is also currently renovating their Rhinelander location, including the addition of new green-space. I would like to thank People's State Bank for their continued investment in the Northwoods!

DNR Outdoor Report
Published October 10, 2019
Outdoor Report is your weekly snapshot for all things outdoors from across the state. Here is a brief look at what Wisconsin has in store for you this week.
More and more leaves are changing across Wisconsin as the fall color begins to peak across the northern half of the state. Those living further south are in for a treat as the leaves are just starting to turn. You can still discover the best fall colors in Wisconsin with the official Travel Wisconsin Fall Color Report.
The state continued to receive its share of rain last week, leaving Lake Michigan tributaries running high and clarity low. Between the rainstorms, anglers were still fishing fall salmon runs, especially at Oak Creek, where anglers were standing shoulder to shoulder. Deer activity is picking up with plenty of scraping, so bucks can make their presence known. High water levels continue to make it challenging for waterfowl hunters, who are finding birds spread out. Ducks, geese and cranes are slowly moving in with a big push of birds are expected this weekend. For more on Wisconsin's outdoors, check out the full Outdoor Report.
