I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Even though this year might look a little different, there is still a great opportunity to continue or make new memorable traditions with our loved ones. Despite the current political rhetoric, I truly believe that we as Americans have more that unites us than divides us. We have made incredible sacrifices this year, but let us not forget what truly brings us together. Thanksgiving began as a day of giving thanks and to acknowledge the great blessing of the harvest from this year. For me, I'm thankful to live in a country that allows us to pursue our own destiny and to live in freedom, and I'm especially thankful to be able to serve the people of the Northwoods.
Tomorrow, our dinner tables might not be as full and some of our guests might be virtual, but no matter how you choose to celebrate, I would encourage everyone to use as much caution as possible to avoid further exacerbating the spread of this disease. Please continue and remember to abide by the following CDC guidelines.
Preliminary Deer Numbers
Hunters from across the state registered 95,257 white-tailed deer over the opening weekend of the 2020 Wisconsin nine-day gun deer hunting season. This is a 2% increase over the same time last year, according to preliminary data released Tuesday by the Department of Natural Resources. The 2020 harvest numbers include 49,025 bucks, a 1.6% increase from last year, and 46,232 antlerless deer, a 3% increase from last year.
As usual, hunter reports of deer activity varied around the state, though most regions experienced excellent hunting conditions with cool temperatures, high visibility and low wind, according to DNR. The gun deer season lasts until November 29th and there is still time for the opportunity to harvest the big one.
Below are the preliminary harvest numbers from the 34th Assembly District:
Anterled Anterlerless Total
Oneida 461 248 709
Vilas 370 61 431
Forest 289 27 316
Florence 303 97 400

Again, good luck, hunters, and stay safe!
