For the last 98 years, Americans have remembered those that served our country in uniform on November 11, first as Armistice Day, and then, since 1954 as Veterans Day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have and currently serve our country and wish them a happy Veterans Day tomorrow.
This morning, I had the chance to attend the James Williams Middle School 47th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony. The event had an incredible turnout, with the gym packed with veterans and members of the community. The program included participation by several veterans organizations, the local National Guard, time given to honor our past war veterans, and students singing songs. This year’s guest speaker was Matt Berth. Matt is a Rhinelander native and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 2000. He joined the Army National Guard in 2002 and was deployed to Iraq from 2003-2004 and Afghanistan in 2009.

Additionally, I attended the Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Monument on the Oneida County courthouse grounds hosted by the Oneida County Veterans Council. Tom Jordens, a Gulf War veteran and co-owner and chef at CT's Deli in Rhinelander, was the guest speaker.

I would encourage everyone to go out tomorrow and take part in recognizing those who honorably serve our country. Below you can find a list of Veterans Day events in the area.
