Rep. Loudenbeck Statement on Rejection of Great Lakes Basin Railroad

Madison – State Representative Amy Loudenbeck (R-Clinton) released the following statement regarding the Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) rejection of an application by the Great Lakes Basin Transportation, Inc. (GLBT) for authority to construct and operate a 261-mile rail line through portions of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.

“I am thrilled that the Surface Transportation Board has reviewed and rejected the application by the GLBT. As I and countless others have pointed out in our submissions to the STB, this was an application that was completely without merit and never adequately addressed any of significant environmental or socio-economic issues related to the proposed project. I am grateful that this decision will allow the residents along and near the proposed route to move forward without the fear of this project impacting them.”
