2019 Deaf Picnic

There are so many events to choose from on a summer Saturday. Last weekend, I tried something new and attended the 14th annual Deaf Picnic in Darien. A constituent I met with last week invited me and she even got an interpreter to join us! I met some really interesting people and learned a lot about challenges and opportunities advocates in the deaf community are working on.

District Day in Beloit

I had a wonderful, busy day in Beloit recently. The Beloit Public Library hosted a celebration with the Wisconsin Library Association as I received their Library Champion Award for the third time! I had a great lunch with Beloit City Council President Regina Dunkin and State Public Defender Kelli Thompson. I then met with Town of Beloit Fire Chief Gene Wright to talk about issues facing Fire/EMS in Rock County and finished the day touring Rock Hemp Corp and learning about the re-emerging industry of hemp farming!

Wisconsin's Livestock Facility Siting Law

The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Board has approved proposed revisions to ATCP 51, relating to Livestock Facility Siting, for public comment. The proposed rule would modify odor management requirements, establish new and more restrictive setbacks, provide updates to applicable water quality standards and make other changes. The Board’s approval was only for the document to go to public hearing. It does not constitute final approval of the rule.
